T.I. And Trey Songz Clap Back After Raven Symone Criticizes Rappers
Was Raven out of line, or were her comments totally justified?
There are a few rappers who would like a word with Raven Symone.
The former child actress (inadvertently?) started quite the debate online after she reposted a meme criticizing rappers.
The original post, which Raven reposted on her Instagram over the weekend, features a photo of T.I., P. Diddy, Swizz Beatz, Big Sean, and other rappers attending Jay Z's annual Roc Nation brunch.
Reads the caption, "A group of so-called 'successful' Black men (minus [Khaled] racially) who became rich and famous from perpetuating the worst Black stereotypes to the ears and eyes of the whole planet like drug dealing, pimping, murdering other Black men and disrespecting Black women. I know, making observations is being a hater. Cheers."
Not everyone was feeling Raven's cultural critique; in response to her post, T.I. posted an Oscar Wilde quote that reads, "Every saint has a past and every sinner has a future."
"Our sins ain't no greater than yours ma'am," he wrote in the caption after tagging Ms. Symone. "The air must be thin as hell up there on that high horse you sittin on. Somebody please let me know...WTF up wit shawty?"
Trey Songz later chimed in on the situation in Tip's comments, writing, "It's so sad that she's really a clown. Speech too."
Raven's response? "I said what I said," basically.
Though the former talk show host did delete her original post, she explained in a second post that she still stands behind what she said, writing, "Deleted my post because the comments were not something I wanted my underage followers looking at. I'm not deleting because I don't believe in what I said."
"SMH," she added.
Whose side are you on? #TeamRaven or #TeamRap?
