Demi Lovato Backup Dancer Dani Vitale Calls For End To 'Negativity' Surrounding Singer's OD: 'Nothing But Love In My Heart'
Dani Vitale called on the singer's fans to support “the ones who care about Demi.”
Demi Lovato is reportedly on the road to recovery after an apparent drug overdose — but it sounds like some fans looking for someone to blame have taken aim at the singer's friend and backup dancer.
Paramedics were called to Lovato’s Hollywood Hills home on Tuesday, where she was reportedly treated with naloxone — an opioid overdose reversal medication — after being found unconscious.
Lovato was out celebrating dancer pal Dani Vitale's birthday earlier that night, before her overdose, according to footage published by TMZ.
The video shows Lovato, Vitale, and others celebrating at the Saddle Ranch Chop House in West Hollywood.
Vitale took to Instagram on Sunday to set the record straight. In a lengthy post, she informed fans that she was not with Lovato at the time of her overdose, and called for an end to “negativity.”
“I care about Demi just like all of you do,” she began her post. “I have not said anything about this situation until now because her recovery has been of the most importance.”
“I was not with Demi when the incident happened, but I am with her now, and will continue to be because she means the world to me just as she does to all of you,” she continued. “Like all of you, I have nothing but love in my heart for her. There is no need for any negativity towards the ones who care about Demi at this time. There is too much of it in this world as it is.”
“I know you’re all feeling lost without her at this moment in time,” she went on. “Remember that you have always been a community of Lovatics who LOVE. Please remember that when you take out your phones and start typing. Remember that we all love her more than we can ever put into words. Please continue to send her love during your recovery.”
Vitale’s post received 14,000 likes in under 24 hours.
The 25-year-old singer was “awake” and asked for her privacy to be respected, Lovato’s spokesperson confirmed in a statement to NBC News.
Wilmer Valderrama, Lovato’s former boyfriend of nearly six years, was spotted visiting her at the hospital on Wednesday and Thursday.
Other celebs — like Ariana Grande, Cardi B, and another of Lovato’s former flames, Joe Jonas — took to social media to wish Lovato well.
