'Never In A Million Years' — What The Author Of 'House Of Gucci' Thinks About The Film

History, fashion, and murder all intersect in Sara Gay Forden's latest book, a chronicle of the murder of Gucci heir Maurizio Gucci — a hit job orchestrated by his own ex-wife Patrizia Reggiani.

"House of Gucci: A True Story of Murder, Madness, Glamour, and Greed" is an engrossing nonfiction read and was selected as the November pick for Oxygen Book Club, which highlights books in the true crime and mystery sphere each month and features exclusive interviews, guided discussions, and more. It's also the inspiration for the new film of the same name, starring Lady Gaga and Adam Driver.

Oxygen digital correspondent Stephanie Gomulka recently spoke with Forden to learn more about the research involved in writing the book, why the story deserves to be told, and Forden's thoughts on the new movie.

 "Maurizio's murder was like the most shocking thing in Milan in that period. When I talk about it with people, I wanted to convey that sense of total shock and bewilderment about who could have done such a thing ... Milan is a financial and industrial capital ... it's like the New York of Italy. It's about banks and big businesses. It's not the type of city where you see this cold-blooded violence happening," she told Gomulka.

The book isn't just about the shocking murder, though. It very much focuses on the Gucci brand itself, and the ups and downs the fashion house experienced.

"This is a story that spans three generations of the Gucci family ... There's a saying in Italy: The first generation creates, the second generation expands, and the third generation destroys, and that's kind of what happened here in the Gucci story," Forden explained.

So, what does she think of the movie version of the story that hit cinema screens last month?

"I'm over the moon.  I always really believed in this story. This story has a timeless quality to the narrative so I felt it deserved to be made into a movie at some point ... I honestly never in a million years would have dreamed it would be a production of this dimension and this scope. Ridley Scott is a top of the line director. Lady Gaga, everybody loves her and is dying to see what she's going to do next. Adam Driver, too," she gushed.
