A years-long romance ended on accusations of infidelity, and after days of threats, stalking and turmoil from her then ex-boyfriend, Maple Batalia was found shot on her college campus. Her murder is the focus of an upcoming episode of Killer Relationship with Faith Jenkins, airing Sunday, August 13 at 7/6c on Oxygen.

Who was Maple Batalia?
The 19-year-old was born near Mumbai, India, and was attending Simon Fraser University as a health science student in Surrey in Canada when she was killed in a campus parking lot, according to the Mirror in the U.K.
Batalia had dreams of becoming a doctor, but was also a part-time model and actress, with a role in the 2010 movie, Diary of A Wimpy Kid, according to IMDB. She also appeared in an episode of the television series The Secret Circle airing on CW in 2011.
Batalia had been named a finalist in the Central City Model search, and was about to go to auditions in Alberta, when she was killed, according to IMDB.
Who was Maple Batalia dating?
Batalia had been in an off and on relationship with Gurjinder "Gary" Dhaliwal, 20, for four years, since high school, according to Globe and Mail. But in 2011, when she learned he had been unfaithful to her, she ended their relationship.
That’s when his pattern of stalking and harassment began, according to Globe and Mail. Between mid-August and late September 2011, he called her more than 2,000 times, and texted her several thousand times. On one night when Batalia was at a club with a male friend, Dhaliwal sent her 300 text messages, according to the Mirror.
He spit on one of her male friends outside a club, according to Globe and Mail, and punched another of her male friends at Tim Hortons, in a jealous rage. After that, the outlet reported Dhaliwal was arrested and ordered not to have contact with Batalia.
“She had told him the relationship was over. She was moving on. He did not want that to occur,” Crown prosecutor Wendy Stephen said, according to Globe and Mail.
How was Maple Batalia murdered?
Batalia was studying at her university library on the night of Sept. 18, 2011, and when she left the library, she hugged a male friend goodbye, according to the Mirror. As she walked to her car, she was shot. Though she was alive when police arrived on the scene, she succumbed to her injuries at a local hospital.
