The rapper was taken into custody on multiple drug charges mere hours before he was scheduled to perform.
Musician Ty Dolla $ign was arrested on drug charges in Atlanta, mere hours before a scheduled performance on Wednesday.
The “Pineapple” artist was riding in a car with six other occupants when cops pulled them over just before 5 p.m., an Atlanta police spokeswoman told the Journal-Constitution.
Officers smelled marijuana and searched the vehicle, leading to an alleged discovery of both marijuana and cocaine in the car.
Ty Dolla $ign, whose real name is Tyrone William Griffin Jr., was subsequently cuffed and booked into the Fulton County Jail on charges of possession of marijuana (less than one ounce), possession of cocaine, and possession and use of drug related objects, according to the Fulton County Sheriff’s Office website.
The 33-year-old, who is currently in the midst of a nationwide tour with fellow rappers G-Eazy and Lil Uzi Vert, was taken into custody less than two hours before he was scheduled to perform at the Cellairis Amphitheatre at Lakewood.
Footage obtained and published by TMZ shows officers and dogs searching the vehicle Ty Dolla $ign was riding in. The footage also shows cops handcuffing Ty Dolla $ign and leading him into a nearby police cruiser.
The six others traveling with the rapper were released without charges.
Ty Dolla $ign is scheduled to appear in front of a judge at 11 a.m. on Thursday, according to The Atlanta-Journal Constitution.
