Pregnant Woman Attacked By Mob Of Motorcycle And ATV Riders Driving In ‘Reckless Manner’ Around Florida City
“This is a very serious situation for us. This was very tragic for the victim. We are not taking this lightly,” Orange County Capt. Carlos Torres said.
A pregnant woman and the father of her child were attacked Sunday afternoon in Florida by a mob of motorcycle and ATV riders after one of the bikers hit the woman’s car and flew onto the windshield.
The victim was struck in the back of the head by a woman after she had gotten out of her car to check on the other rider, WFTV reports. Her partner tried to intervene, but was also kicked and beaten as the group used their helmets and fists to repeatedly attack the couple, police said.
The attack only stopped when the riders heard emergency sirens. One of the attackers also allegedly stole the woman’s purse.
“This is a very serious situation for us. This was very tragic for the victim. We are not taking this lightly,” Orange County Capt. Carlos Torres told the news station. “Our goal is to keep everybody safe.”
The couple, who have not been identified, were taken to the Orlando Regional Medical Center to be treated for their injuries, but their current conditions have not been released.
The incident occurred around 3:50 p.m. Sunday afternoon when a large group of motorcycle and ATV riders were traveling down an intersection at S. Orange Ave., according to a statement from the Edgewood Police Department.
Police released video footage of the incident, which they said involved an “unknown number of suspects” in the hopes that the public would be able to help identify those involved.
According to police, several bikes stopped by the vehicle during the attack.
The group had reportedly been driving around in the area for several hours in what police called a “a very reckless manner” before the attack began, the Orlando Sentinel reports.
Other reckless driving incidents were reported throughout the city, including an incident Wednesday morning where an ATV hit and dragged an Orange County Sheriff’s deputy for 10 feet. Deputies announced the arrest of three suspects in that case Wednesday afternoon.
