Mexican Telenovela Star Busted For Shoplifting At Texas Mall
Danielle Stefani Arellano, star of "Me Declaro Culpable" ("I Plead Guilty"), was allegedly caught red-handed with hundreds of dollars in stolen merchandise.
The star of a Mexican telenovela was caught red handed trying to shoplift from a discount retail store in a Texas mall, according to police.
Danielle Stefani Arellano, 52, who stars in the appropriately named series “Me Declaro Culpable,” or “I Plead Guilty,” was busted Friday and charged with theft after a loss-prevention officer at a Saks Off Fifth store in San Antonio, Texas, spotted her trying to walk out with merchandise, according to KSAT 12 San Antonio.
Arellano, who goes by the professional name Daniela Castro, was spotted strolling around the store, located in the city’s Rim Shopping Center, snatching clothes off their hangers and putting them into her purse, according to KSAT.
She eventually went up to the register to pay for some things, but did not make any attempt to buy the items she had stuffed into her purse, police told the television station.
The loss-prevention officer followed the TV star into the parking lot and brought her back inside to his office, where a search turned up between $100 and $750 worth of merchandise, including a sweater, a skirt and sportswear, KSAT reports.
Arellano, who plays a villainous woman on the Mexican soap opera, was arrested and charged with theft, according to Fox News.
She was in each of the show’s 62 episodes until it ended earlier this year, according to her credits on the Internet Movie Database, a site known popularly as IMDB.
It was not immediately clear when she was bailed out, but jail records show Arellano was no longer in police custody as of Tuesday morning.
