Man In Wheelchair 'Wipes Out Three Generations' Of His Family In Mississippi Shootings, Police Say
Maurice Forte, 22, has been charged with the murders of his grandmother, mother and sister, according to authorities.
A wheel-chair bound man is being accused of killing three of his family members.
Jackson Police arrested Maurice Forte, 22, after they received a call around 11 a.m. on Sunday from someone claiming to be held against their will, according to the Associated Press.
When polcie arrived at the scene, however, they discovered Forte sitting in his wheelchair in front of the home. He allegedly had a firearm near him and confessed to officers that he had shot someone, according to WJTV.
Police found one woman shot outside the house and two other women shot inside the house, WAPT reports. The victims had sustained multiple gunshot wounds and all died at the scene, police say.
The victims were later identified as the suspect's grandmother Eddie Mae Wofford, 67, his mother Miyuki Wofford, 49, and his sister Kyisha Wofford, 26.
"It’s a family domestic shooting,” Jackson Police Department Interim Police Chief James Davis told local NBC station WLBT.
Hinds County Coroner Sharon Grisham-Stewart said it's possible that Wofford may have also been pregnant; however that can't be confirmed until the body is examined, WLBT reported.
After police discovered the bodies, they took Forte into custody for questioning. He was later charged with three counts of murder in connection to the shootings and is being held without bond.
Davis said that police have been called to the home before, but he declined to go into further detail about what had occurred during previous incidents.
Neighbors said they were shocked by the killings.
"Don't no one know what's going on behind closed doors," neighbor Jerla West told WLBT.
No motive has been announced in the case.
"You gotta whole family that's destroyed," Davis told WLBT. "He wiped out three generations, three generations; grandmother, mother and sister."
