Man Flags Down Cops To Confess To Sexually Assaulting Child: 'I Did Something Really Bad'
"I hurt her. In a way somebody should never be hurt.”
Last year, a man flagged down police in Cleveland to confess to sexually assaulting a child. The young victim was still in the backseat of his car.
Mark Fry’s court case just closed, and the footage of his confession has been released, the FOX 8 I TEAM reported.
In the video, police can be heard paraphrasing what Fry, 23, told them.
One cop says, "He pulled in here and said ‘take me to jail. I did something really bad.’"
The victim was only 7 years old, News 5 Cleveland reported.
Fry can be heard telling police that he is sick. When pressed by police, Fry tells them, "I hurt her. In a way somebody should never be hurt.”
He could not bring himself to explain exactly how he hurt the child. Fry was arrested and charged with rape, a first-degree felony, according to News 5 Cleveland. Police said Fry had kidnapped the girl and then sexually assaulted her in his car.
According to KTLA, Fry pleaded guilty to the attack, and he has been sentenced to 35 years to life in prison. However, he is reportedly appealing his sentence.
According to I TEAM report, prosecutors in Cuyahoga County rarely see such a confession. However, they have noticed an estimated increase of 25 percent of sex assault cases leading to indictment in the last year alone. Cleveland Police said they have seen an increase in rape cases of 10 percent over the last year.
"Obviously, there's a lot of news about victims of sex offenses coming forward,” Assistant Cuyahoga County Prosecutor Jeff Schnatter. “So I think there's a feeling of safety to come forward for victims.”
