‘They Just Took A Member Of Our Family,’ Real-life Grinch Stole Family's Dog, Christmas Gifts
“Presents can be replaced, material things can be replaced [...] but we want our dog back. That’s the most important thing for us, is our dog.”
A real-life Grinch (or Grinches) has entered a Dallas, Texas home only to make off with the family’s Christmas presents — and their beloved dog.
A spokesperson with the Dallas Police Department told Oxygen.com that on Friday “an unknown suspect entered through bedroom window" and took "jewelry, Christmas toys and the owner's dog.”
Homeowner Diana Alvarado took to Facebook to plead for the safe return of her dog Smokey.
“They stole jewelry, all our Christmas presents and MOST importantly, our dog Smokey!” she wrote, posting several photos of the family dog.
She said her family is offering a $500 dollar reward for Smokey’s return.
“We will never stop looking for our boy Smokey,” she wrote.
Alvarado told KXAS in Dallas Forth-Worth that the Grinch-like thief invaded her home while she was at work. She said she doesn’t care about the presents as she does about family member Smokey.
“Presents can be replaced, material things can be replaced,” Alvarado said. “They also stole our piggy bank that we’d be saving for a long time. It was a water jug filled with coins and dollar bills, but we want our dog back. That’s the most important thing for us, is our dog.”
She told the station she hopes that whoever stole her dog has it in their heart to return him.
“He’s a part of our family, a very important part,” she said. “They just took a member of our family.”
