Golden State Killer Suspect Joseph James DeAngelo Could Be Linked To Dozens Of Other Crimes

Dozens of additional charges could await Golden State Killer suspect Joseph James DeAngelo, as authorities say he might be linked to more than 50 crimes committed decades ago in California.

DeAngelo, 72, was hit with four murder charges Wednesday after police accused him of being the Golden State Killer, otherwise known as the East Area Rapist, an elusive monster who terrorized several parts of California between 1978 and 1986.

Police have long believed the Golden State Killer was responsible for at least 12 killings and 50 rapes. At a news conference with the Sacramento County District Attorney's Office Wednesday, officials handed out a long list of unsolved crimes prosecutors believe the killer committed.

The list, seen on CNN, shows that officials believe the crime spree started two years earlier than authorities initially thought. It includes dozens of rapes and sexual assaults, as well as murders and burglaries, with some linked by DNA evidence.

Police said they captured DeAngelo, a former police officer, thanks to DNA evidence collected from something he threw in the trash. Prosecutors are investigating whether he is connected to any of the other violent crimes on the list:
