Fake Hillary Clinton Sex Video Linked To Russian Reddit Account
The clip, called “Leaked Hillary Clinton’s Hotel Sex Tape with Black Guy,” appeared on popular porn sites.
A fake video that claimed to be a Hillary Clinton sex tape has been traced back to a Reddit account linked to the Russian firm accused of meddling in the 2016 election.
An account that posted GIFs from the clip, under the name Rubinjer, is associated with the Internet Research Agency based in St. Petersburg, according to NBC News. The Internet Research Agency is one of three Russian groups charged in Special Counsel Robert Mueller's investigation into election interference.
Short animated sequences from the phony sex tape were posted to Reddit's r/The_Donald page, a popular forum for extreme President Trump supporters. One post was titled, "This is how Hillary gets black votes."
The clip, called “Leaked Hillary Clinton’s Hotel Sex Tape with Black Guy,” was also posted to porn sites PornHub and SpankBang by Rubinjer and was viewed over 250,000 times. Neither site commented on the clip.
Former Internet Research Agency employee Alan Baskaev told The Daily Beast about the creation of the video in 2017.
“You know, there’s this meme about the troll factory, people sitting in black caps, masks, behind them there’s a photo of Putin and a Russian flag. They’re so intense,” Baskaev said. “I don’t know what happened on the day shift, but the night shift was a bacchanal. We did the most ridiculous things we could think of."
The Rubinjer account, along with 943 other Reddit accounts connected to the Internet Research Agency, were suspended Monday.
Rubinjer had previously posted content to forums such as r/BlackPeopleGifs. The account also promoted an anti-Clinton video game named "Hilltendo," which was also discovered to have been created by a Russian agency, according to CNN.
Reddit users have attempted to police forums by debunking Russian accounts. Reddit’s CEO Steve Huffman has said his company is doing its best to "identify and remove” troll accounts.
“There were a number of signals: suspicious creation patterns, usage patterns (account sharing), voting collaboration, etc,” he told NBC News. He also said Reddit is working with companies including Twitter to corroborate information on Russian trolls.
