‘He’s Losing It’: Woman Pleads For Help Before Boyfriend - Who She'd Just Bailed Out Of Jail - Allegedly Kills Her
Jennifer Kalicki was found dead with "significant injuries" Sunday morning in the Tewksbury, Massachusetts apartment she shared with Eric Griffin.
A Massachusetts man is accused of viciously beating his girlfriend to death in their apartment just days after she bailed him out of jail.
Eric Griffin, 40, has been charged with one count of assault and battery on a family or household member after his 39-year-old girlfriend Jennifer Kalicki was found dead in the couple’s bed Sunday morning, according to The Lowell Sun.
“The victim had sustained significant injuries consistent with a physical assault,” the Middlesex County District Attorney’s Office said in a statement.
She was found with a bump and cut on her forehead, red indentation near her left temple, red marks on her neck and chest and bruising on her right hand, according to a police report obtained by the local paper. Her shirt had also been ripped open in the chest area.
Griffin called police around 8 a.m. Sunday to report his girlfriend was unresponsive. When police arrived, they found her dead in the bed at the Tewksbury apartment the couple shared.
Just one day prior, Kalicki had reportedly sent a series of disturbing text messages to Griffin’s sister pleading for help and describing a violent assault.
“He’s ripped the door open. Choked me, slammed me to the ground,” she said in one message, according to Boston.com.
In another she wrote: “He’s losing it…I just need help.”
Griffin’s sister never called police.
The messages were sent between 8:35 a.m. and 10:42 a.m. on Saturday. Police believe the altercation between the pair began on Friday and carried into Saturday.
“During those text messages, the victim was begging the defendant’s sister for help,” Assistant District Attorney Suzanne Wiseman said in court Monday during Griffin’s arraignment, according to The Lowell Sun.
Griffin allegedly told police he and Kalicki had argued before her death; however, he denied hurting her. He claimed the injuries she had suffered had been self-inflicted.
Just days before the alleged assault, on Sept. 11, Kalicki had posted a $250 cash bail to get Griffin released from jail, where he was being held on a drug charge.
The 40-year-old has a long criminal record that also includes two previous restraining orders, another domestic violence case involving Kalicki that was dismissed Sept. 9 and multiple probation violations, prosecutors said.
Kalicki’s mother, Kathy Gadd, told the media after Monday’s hearing that she believes Griffin killed her daughter.
“He murdered her. He murdered her,” she said, according to WFTX. “There’s no two ways about it. I want him to get the most they can give him.”
She went on to say that she hated her daughter’s boyfriend.
“And he’s going to try and say he’s sorry,” she said. “That’s the type of person he is. He’s not sorry. He’s just sorry he got caught.”
Griffin is currently being held without bail. According to the district attorney’s office, additional charges may be possible as the investigation into Kalicki’s death continues.
Meanwhile, Kalicki’s family is left grappling with the devastating loss.
"She was a most wonderful daughter a mother could ask for and I can’t believe I’ll never see her again," Gadd said.
