Baby Cut From Teen Mom’s Womb Has Died After Succumbing To Brain Injury Suffered During Mom’s Murder
Yovanny Jadiel Lopez was cut out of his teenage mom's Marlen Ochoa-Lopez womb when she was murdered, allegedly so that a middle age woman grieving the loss of her own son could have him.
A baby boy who was cut out of the womb of his murdered teenage mother has died after weeks of fighting for his little life.
Marlen Ochoa-Lopez was only 19 when she was discovered discarded and dumped in a garbage can in April. That trash can was located behind the home of 46-year-old Clarisa Figueroa, who had claimed to have just given birth to a baby boy, according to The Chicago Sun Times. Ochoa-Lopez’ newborn baby boy had been cut out of Ochoa-Lopez’s womb. Police believe the murder happened on April 23.
The boy, Yovanny Jadiel Lopez, suffered brain injuries during the incident and has fought for weeks in an intensive care unit to survive but lost that battle on Friday.
“It is with great sadness that we inform you of the passing of baby Yovanny Jadiel Lopez,” Lopez family spokeswoman Julie Contreras said in a statement. “He passed away this Friday June 14, 2019 from his severe brain injury.”
She urged the public to “please keep his family in your thoughts & prayers as they go through this difficult time.”
The funeral will be held privately.
It’s not yet clear if the suspects will face new charges in light of the tragic death. The Cook County state’s attorney’s office told the Chicago Sun Times they will make such a decision as they conclude the investigation into the initial killing.
Figueroa and her daughter Desiree Figueroa, 24, were arrested and charged with murder and prosecutors believe that the mother and daughter had been planning the murder for weeks. The pair allegedly developed a relationship with the victim through a Facebook group where they exchanged baby clothes.
A third suspect, Piotr Bobak, 40, has been charged with concealment of a crime. He is Clarisa’s boyfriend.
Seven months ago, Clarisa announced that she was pregnant despite the fact she reportedly had her fallopian tubes tied, the Chicago Tribune reports. Her alleged fake pregnancy plan was elaborate and she even posted photos on Facebook of an ultrasound and decorated a nursery room in her home.
Police said at a press conference held weeks ago that Clarisa lost a son, who was in his 20s, to natural causes. During her alleged fake pregnancy, Clarisa said she would name her unborn son after her son that died.
Prosecutors claim Desiree distracted the 9-months-pregnant teen with a photo album while her mother Clarisa wrapped a cable around her hands before wrapping it around her neck, all from behind, before strangling her for five minutes. After it was believed that the teen was dead, Clarisa allegedly cut the baby boy out of the teen with a butcher knife.
Clarisa allegedly even started a GoFundMe campaign for the recovering baby she is accused of cutting out of Ochoa-Lopez.
The defendants in the case are due back in court June 26.
