Florida Man Told Police He Thought The Child Porn On His Computer Was Legal
Police found 20 sexually explicit photographs of children on Luis Idarraga's laptop as part of a child porn probe.
A Florida man admitted to police that he had child porn photos on his laptop — but said he thought it was all legal.
Luis Idarraga, 63, got arrested at his Vero Beach home Tuesday after a search by Indian River County Sheriff’s deputies. They arrived with a search warrant as part of a larger child exploitation inquiry, according to The Miami Herald.
Police found an HP Chromebook at Idarraga’s home, and Idarraga provided a password for it. On the laptop, police found 20 photographs of children who wear either completely naked or only wearing tops, police said. At least some of the children were engaged in some sort of sexual activity.
Idarraga told police, through a Spanish translator, that he downloaded the images online and that he believed the children in the photos were ages 8 to 13, TC Palm reported. He maintained that he thought possessing the images was completely legal.
"Idarraga did not feel as if he had done anything wrong because the child pornography was found on the internet," an officer wrote in Idarraga’s arrest affidavit.
Oh, but he did.
He has been charged with 20 counts of child pornography possession. According to online jail records, Idarraga was booked Tuesday on a $50,000 bond, which he posted one day later.
Idarraga works for a golf maintenance company. It's unclear if he has a lawyer to speak on his behalf.
