Singer Ann Marie Placed Under House Arrest After Allegedly Shooting Childhood Friend In The Head
Ann Marie is accused of shooting her friend Jonathan Wright in the head in an Atlanta hotel room, but told police a gun accidentally discharged when it fell from a table.
Singer Ann Marie is under house arrest following a shooting incident earlier this month that left a friend of hers in critical condition.
The Chicago-born singer, whose real name is Joann Marie Slater, was arrested in Atlanta, Georgia following a Dec. 1 shooting at the Intercontinental Buckhead Hotel. Officers who responded to the scene found 24-year-old Jonathan Wright suffering from a gunshot wound to the head; he was somewhat conscious and able to answer questions before being rushed to a local hospital, where he was listed in critical condition. Slater, meanwhile, was hysterical, according to police, and told officers that Wright was her childhood friend and that he was shot after a gun in the room fell off of a table and went off.
Slater was arrested in relation to the shooting but was released after posting $60,000 bond on Wednesday, online jail records show. As she awaits trial, a judge has placed her on house arrest and ruled that she is only allowed to leave for work and in the event that she obtains approval beforehand, TMZ reports. She has been ordered to wear an ankle monitor, and in the event that she has an appointment, she has to notify the court 24 hours ahead of time with proof of said appointment, according to the outlet.
Additionally, a judge has ordered that Slater have no contact with Wright or his family, and she is not allowed to possess a gun, TMZ reports.
Police rushed to the scene on Dec. 1 after receiving a report of shots fired, an incident report obtained by Oxygen.com states. Two shell casings and two bullets were recovered from the scene, and two bullet holes were observed in a door jam and a cabinet, according to police. There was also a large pool of blood in the entryway.
Slater was wearing a bath robe when police arrived and although she was hysterical, there were no tears in her eyes, one officer wrote. Slater was also the one who called 911, and during the call she referred to Wright as her “best friend,” according to the report. In audio of the 911 call that was released by TMZ, Slater can also be heard saying “I love you” to the victim.
Police arrested Slater for possession of a firearm during a commission of a felony and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, online jail records show.
Slater made a name for herself in the entertainment industry with the release of her 2018 single, “Secret,” which climbed up the Billboard Hot R&B chart the following year. Her most recent release is her 2019 EP, “Pretty Psycho.”
