Colorado Man Arrested After Corpse Found In His Basement 'Encased' In Concrete
Russell Montoya Jr. was charged with murder and tampering with evidence after authorities discovered a Denver man's body in his home.
A tip about a fatal shooting that allegedly occurred inside a Denver apartment led to the grim discovery of a corpse encased in concrete.
Russell Montoya Jr., 38, was arrested and faces murder and tampering with evidence charges after the body's discovery, and more charges could be pending, authorities told Denver FOX station KDVR.
Investigators with the Adams County Sheriff's Office made the horrid discovery on Friday, November 15, after fielding a lead from a neighboring police agency about a possible shooting homicide that took place at Montoya's apartment complex on Nov. 8.
Investigators showed up to the home and “located the body of the adult male victim ‘encased' in concrete in the basement of the apartment,” according to a release from the Adams County Sheriff's Office.
“A search of the residence and multiple interviews have confirmed that shooting and homicide occurred inside the apartment,” another release from the office stated.
The identity of the victim has not been released, but police have called him an adult male from the Denver metro area.
One neighbor was aghast at the revelation that she and her children were living beside a buried corpse.
“We have heard some disturbing things over there,” mother Anneshia Lucero told CBS local television station KCNC. “I don’t know what was going on, but you can tell there’s a lot of commotion that goes on in that area.”
Montoya is being held in Adams County Detention Facility pending additional court proceedings, records show.
