Rae Sremmurd Rapper Slim Jxmmi Charged With Assaulting His Child’s Mother
The victim recorded the alleged assault on her phone and sent it to a friend, police said in an arrest affidavit, but then denied on social media that any domestic violence had occurred.
A rapper was arrested in Florida Tuesday after police say he physically attacked the mother of his child.
Slim Jxmmi, whose given name is Aaquil Brown, was arrested after the Tuesday morning altercation, according to NBC Miami. According to an arrest affidavit obtained by the station, Brown and the alleged victim have been in a relationship since November 2018.
Brown was booked into the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center on Tuesday morning and charged with battery, according to jail records. He is being held on $1,500 bond.
Miami-Dade Police were called to an apartment in northeast Miami at around 5:00 a.m. after reports that a fight between the 30-year-old rapper and an unnamed female reportedly became violent.
The dispute allegedly began the night before when the victim confronted Brown about a woman he followed on social media, according to the affidavit. Brown then left the apartment with a music producer, telling the girlfriend he was heading to the gym.
When Brown and company returned to the apartment, he smelled of alcohol, the victim told police. The woman proceeded to take a shower, and when she returned to the living room, she found Brown lying on the floor while their infant child slept in a nearby playpen.
Brown allegedly refused to help the woman move the playpen. Police said the victim attempted to take the baby into a bedroom before Brown reportedly pulled the victim’s hair, yanking out her hair extensions in the process.
The woman reportedly captured some the argument on her phone before sending the footage to a friend, she told police. Brown then allegedly chased her in an attempt to take the phone, at which point the victim hid behind a bedroom door — which Brown proceeded to kick in.
At one point, Brown allegedly jumped on the victim and attempted to snatch the phone from her bra.
The victim told police that the fight continued on the balcony outside the apartment before Brown threw the phone off the balcony, suggesting he feared that the footage would “destroy his celebrity status.”
Responding officers later found the undamaged phone in the street and returned it to the victim, according to ABC affiliate Local 10.
The women took to social media after Brown's arrest to deny that any domestic violence had occurred, according to TMZ.
“Dade County, y’all are wrong for this,” she wrote. “I told you guys he did not hit me. Every officer you guys had in my face are wrong for this. No hands were put on anybody, I stated it more than once. It was a loud argument and the police were called. You guys turn nothing into something. It’s our son’s first birthday tomorrow, what’s wrong with y’all?”
Slim Jxmmi is one half of the group Rae Sremmurd, which Brown formed with his brother, Swae Lee. Best known for their 2006 song, “Black Beatles,” the Mississippi-born duo took to music to escape the struggles of living in the Ida Street projects of Tupelo, according to their website.
“When we were growing up, it was jut about perseverance,” said Brown. “Regardless of the situation, we couldn’t let the haters win.”
