Police Searching For Pennsylvania Woman Who Vanished Near Hiking Trail
Nicole Elizabeth Ebaugh has not been seen since Saturday after she had been in a parking lot by the Heritage Rail Trail County Park in Springfield Township.
Police in Pennsylvania are searching for a woman who vanished near a hiking trail this week, mysteriously leaving her car behind.
The Pennsylvania State Police were informed on Saturday evening that 29-year-old Nicole Elizabeth Ebaugh was missing, the department stated in a press release. Ebaugh was last seen that morning between 10:45 a.m. and 12:45 a.m. near the Heritage Rail Trail County Park in Springfield Township, police said.
Investigators were able to use cellphone records to find that Ebaugh, a New Freedom resident, had been in a parking lot by the trail, WGAL reports. Authorities found her car, a yellow Volkswagen Beetle, abandoned there.
Following Ebaugh’s disappearance, multiple agencies, including the Seven Valley Fire Department and local search and rescue organizations, have been searching for her, according to police. More than 100 volunteers gathered in the days following the filing of the missing person report to help authorities search for Ebaugh in the Glatfelter Station area. Authorities also utilizing helicopters and horses in the search, CBS 21 News reports.
While authorities have remained tight-lipped regarding the circumstances around her disappearance, Trooper Kevin Kochka said Tuesday criminal activity had not been immediately apparent, according to the York Daily Record.
“The initial investigation revealed that her disappearance was not suspicious/criminal in nature at this time. Obviously, there is more in our investigation that we know. However, because it is an ongoing investigation we can not disclose. We are continuing our investigation and are following the leads that we have developed,” Kochka told the outlet. “At the end of the day, we have a missing 29-year-old and the family, community, and investigators are very worried. The Pennsylvania State Police [and] York Criminal Investigations Unit continue to work around the clock and are utilizing all resources available to help locate Ebaugh. ... As possible leads develop, future searches will be conducted.”
Ebaugh is described as a slim white woman who is 5' 4" tall, with light brown hair that comes to her shoulders. Authorities believe that she was last seen wearing dark pants with white stripes on the sides and a black and white checkered jacket.
Anyone with any information on her whereabouts is encouraged to contact the Pennsylvania State Police, York at 717-428-1011.
