Man Allegedly Harassed His Mom Weeks Before He Was Recorded Stabbing Her For 26 Minutes
The husband of Teresa Dewitt-Pierce was able to identify the victim's son as a suspect after watching the attack on a home security camera.
A Texas man is in custody after police say he stabbed his mother more than 20 times in 26 minutes.
Police responded to a deadly stabbing last Sunday, according to the Arlington Police Department, after a victim — later identified as Teresa Dewitt-Pierce, 55 — was found unresponsive in the front yard of her Longmeadow Drive home by her husband after he returned from the store at around 7:30 p.m.
Despite responders performing life-saving measures, Dewitt-Pierce was pronounced dead on the scene.
Dewitt-Pierce’s husband was able to identify her son, Nathan Lee Woodard, 26, after by viewing home surveillance footage that captured the murder, according to an arrest warrant e-mailed to Oxygen.com. According to the warrant, the video captured Dewitt-Pierce arriving home in her Ford Mustang before walking into her garage.
The suspect — dressed in a gray hooded sweatshirt, black jacket and gloves — at that point called out “Mom” before he allegedly threw her on the ground and began “cutting and stabbing her” more than 20 times. The suspect also made “slashing motions” towards the victim’s neck, the warrant said.
The attack allegedly lasted 26 minutes, after which the attacker walked away from the crime scene.
Woodward, who was described as a homeless man with a history of drug use, had also allegedly harassed his mother in the weeks leading up to her murder, witnesses said.
Arlington Detective A. Van Treeck stated in the warrant that Woodard had slashed his mother’s tires with a knife on Jan. 4. He was found sleeping on the same block as his mother’s home and arrested and charged with criminal mischief.
Police were also called when the suspect showed up at his mother's home on Feb. 20 and again last Friday. On those two occasions, Woodard wore the same clothes he wore when he allegedly murdered his mother.
Police arrested Woodard Monday evening without incident and booked him into the Arlington City Jail on one count of murder, police announced.
“We’d like to thank everyone for sharing our post from earlier today and for helping to keep an eye out for this suspect,” the police department stated Monday. “We’d also like to acknowledge the tireless work of our officers and detectives over the last 24 hours to find this dangerous criminal and get him off our streets.”
Dewitt-Pierce’s family created a GoFundMe page to assist with funeral expenses.
