Couple Face More Than 600 Child Abuse-Related Charges For Alleged Serial Torture Of Two Kids
“These are the cases that keep us up at night,” Attorney General Kathy Jennings said of the charges against Mary And Charles Vinson.
A married Delaware couple is accused of beating, starving and force feeding two children in their custody for nearly two years, prosecutors said.
Mary Vinson, 45, and Charles Vinson, 36, of Kent County face a combined 646 child abuse-related charges for the alleged “serial torture” of their two children that last 20 months, the state’s Department of Justice announced Wednesday.
Officials said the Vinsons made their two children “stand for long periods of time,” withheld food, and force fed them. They also allegedly physically assaulted the two minors.

According to the Department of Justice, the two children were hospitalized on multiple occasions due to the abuse. Video cameras placed in the kids’ rooms ultimately captured the abuse. Between March 2021 and March 2022 the couple’s children were taken to the hospital at least six times, the Delaware State News reported.
“These are the cases that keep us up at night,” Attorney General Kathy Jennings said in a statement. “The evidence in this case is disturbing and my prayers are with the victims who, thank God, are somewhere safe. We will seek swift and complete justice against the accused; nothing matters more than protecting our kids.”
Mary Vinson and Charles Vinson were charged with felony first-degree child abuse, first-degree kidnapping, second-degree conspiracy, endangering the welfare of a child, false statement and act of intimidation. Mary Vinson was also dealt further strangulation and attempted strangulation charges. She faces a total 600 separate counts related the case. Charles Vinson is facing 46.
Both of the couple’s children have been removed from their care and placed in the custody of the Delaware Division of Family Services.
If convicted, Mary Vinson faces a possible maximum sentence of 1,150 years behind bars. Her husband faces a maximum of 270 years in prison. Attorney information wasn't immediately available for them.
