Pregnant Woman And Her Boyfriend Both Found Murdered In Different Vacant Homes
Larry Rodgers, who authorities say knew Kyla Hayton and Todd Burkhart, has been named a person of interest in their homicides.
A search for a pregnant woman and her boyfriend in Ohio has turned tragic after both were found murdered in separate vacant homes.
Kyla Hayton, 20, and Todd Burkhart, 28, were last seen on Nov. 16. Their 2003 Toyota Corolla was discovered on Nov. 20 with a broken window in an area of Dayton riddled with abandoned and vacant homes, the Mansfield News Journal reports.
Burkhart's body was found two days later after investigators received a tip to search an abandoned house close to where the couple’s car was located, Fox8 in Cleveland reports. Burkhart was found inside the house, dead from multiple gunshot wounds, investigators said.
By Monday, investigators discovered Hayton's body the same area, though in a different building, with the help of cadaver dogs, Fox8 reports. Hayton, who had been five months pregnant, was also murdered, though the specific details of how she was killed have not been disclosed.
Larry Rodgers, 30, has been named a person of interest in both homicides, the Mansfield News Journal reports. He is being held on an unrelated weapons charges. Rodgers and Burkhart were acquaintances of his, according to the outlet. It’s unclear if he has a lawyer who can speak on his behalf.
Hayton’s dad, Brent Hayton, told the News Journal that he received a text from his daughter's number the last day that she and Burkhart were seen, but was certain that his daughter didn’t author the text.
In addition to their unborn child, the couple had a 4-year-old daughter who was dropped off at Kyla Hayton’s mother’s house in Columbus on Nov. 16, the Ashland Times-Gazette reports. Burkhart's Facebook is full of pictures of the couple, posing together and kissing.
