Two Arrested For Murder Of Recently Retired Mom During Alleged Texas Burglary Spree
Garland Police have arrested two people after finding a 60-year-old woman dead of multiple gunshot wounds on the floor of her daughter's new home.
Two people wanted in the murder of 60-year-old Patricia Eifert in Garland, Texas on Tuesday were arrested on Thursday morning in Dallas with the help of the U.S. Marshalls Violent Crimes Task Force.
Warrants were issued for the arrests of Kvaughandre Presley, 20, and Gabriela Liliana Torres, 21, after they were identified as suspects in Eifert's murder on Wednesday. They are currently being held in the Garland Detention Center on $1 million and $750,000 bonds, respectively.
On Tuesday evening, Eifert was visiting her the newly purchased home of her daughter, Annie Bryant, on Briar Way in Garland according to an interview Bryant gave to Fox affiliate KDFW in Dallas. She and her husband were in the process of moving from Dallas and Eifert had reportedly stopped by after work — from a job that she had just given notice of her plans to retire — to fix a cabinet for the couple.
Video from a neighbor's Nest surveillance camera released by police on Wednesday showed a black sedan moving slowly down the alley behind the homes on Briar Way and those on the parallel Brighton Lane shortly before 7:00 p.m. The car stopped just beyond the Bryant house, which had an open garage door. Two people exited the vehicle and appeared to enter the home through the garage. They then repositioned the car twice, appeared to load several items from the home and Eifert's car into the vehicle and drove away.
Police say that Presley and Torres committed several other burglaries in the neighborhood before crashing into a parked car on the 5100 block of Barcelona Drive. When the owner of that vehicle attempted to assess the damage to the car, Presley reportedly pointed a gun at them and drove away.
When Eifert's son-in-law arrived at the home around 7:00 p.m., he found Eifert suffering from multiple gunshot wounds and called 911. Paramedics pronounced her dead at the scene.
In a statement by police issued after the arrests, they called the murder a "random act of violence" and said there was no indication that Eifert knew either Presley or Torres.
