Kelsey Grammer’s Daughter Injured While Trying To Break Up Violent Restaurant Fight
Spencer Grammer was reportedly slashed with a knife after a drunken brawl broke out in a Manhattan eatery over the weekend.
Actress Spencer Grammer was injured over the weekend during an altercation involving a drunken man and numerous other restaurant patrons at a New York City eatery.
Grammer, 36, was dining at The Black Ant in Manhattan on Friday night when the attack occurred, according to the New York Daily News. She and a friend — 32-year-old Jan Mueller — were seated at an outdoor patio late that evening when a man who appeared to be intoxicated demanded that staff take his order.
After workers refused because it was near closing time, an argument broke out that soon turned physical, according to the outlet. The intoxicated man, described by a witness as a “big guy,” began lashing out at bystanders with a knife, slashing Grammer in the arm and cutting her companion in the lower back.
The unidentified man also fought with a male diner wielding a chair. More than a dozen people attempted to pull the two men apart, anonymous sources told the New York Post.
Although other diners managed to restrain the drunken man at one point, he ultimately escaped and fled the scene before police arrived, according to the outlet.
Grammer, in a statement issued to US Weekly, confirmed that an altercation took place after she and others in the restaurant, “predominantly women,” tried to stop the situation from escalating.
“I sustained a laceration on my arm, and my friend was stabbed in the back, but thankfully he suffered no serious internal injuries,” she said. “We expect to recover quickly.”
No arrests have been made in relation to the incident, but the New York Police Department shared a video on Saturday of a man wanted for assaulting two people at a restaurant the previous night. Police sources confirmed to CNN that the video shared by police is related to the incident on Friday night that left Grammer injured.
Authorities are still searching for the attacker, who was described as a Black man in his 30s who is around five feet eight inches, according to US Weekly. The investigation is ongoing.
Grammer is the daughter of “Frasier” actor Kelsey Grammer and actress Doreen Alderman. The couple's marriage ended in 1990. Spencer is known primarily for her work as the voice actress behind Summer in the popular animated series “Rick and Morty." She also starred as a lead character in the ABC Family show “Greek.”
Grammer, who was treated at Bellevue Hospital, thanked medical staff for their work during the ongoing pandemic in her statement to US Weekly,
“We want to thank the first responders and the staff at Bellevue Hospital, who provided us with excellent care. They fought an incredible battle this year,” she said. “It was very moving for us to have the opportunity to thank them in person.”
