Suspects Allegedly Stabbed Woman 484 Times, One Reportedly Said Victim 'Put Up A Good Fight'
Kailie A. Brackett and Donnell Dana are accused of killing Kimberly Neptune by stabbing the victim 484 times. Brackett allegedly said Neptune "put up a good fight."
One of the two suspects accused of stabbing a woman hundreds of times during a Maine robbery gone wrong has allegedly said that the victim “put up a good fight.”
Kimberly Neptune, 43, was found murdered in her home in Perry — 100 miles east of Bangor on the Canadian border — on April 21, the Maine State Police said previously in a press release. She was found by her brother after being stabbed 484 times, Fox 23 reports, including in her legs, stomach, neck and head, according to an autopsy report.
Surveillance footage at Neptune's apartment building captured a woman leaving the home. Investigators believe that woman is Kailie A. Brackett, 38. Both she and Donnell Dana, 39, were charged with murder and arraigned in May, Fox Bangor reported. They are both still being held without bail.
A witness told investigators that Brackett allegedly told her that “Kim put up a good fight,” Fox 23 reports. That witness also told police that Dana allegedly told her he had killed Neptune in “a fight that got out of control.”
The witness told investigators Neptune expressed that she was unhappy when Brackett brought Dana into her home. At that point, Dana allegedly began attacking Neptune as Brackett allegedly began stealing items like jewelry, money and Xanax pills. Brackett is also accused of joining with Dana in stabbing Neptune.
Police alleged the two went to Neptune's apartment with plans to steal items, including 300 Xanax pills, Law&Crime reports.
Dana and Brackett had a son together. Brackett and Neptune were dating one another, according to the Bangor Daily News, and Dana had previously lived with Neptune.
Brackett has previously been convicted of theft and forgery, burglary, unlawful possession of drugs and trafficking in prison contraband. She also robbed a convenience store in 2016 while her toddler son was in the car. Dana has been convicted in the past for unlawful possession of drugs.
