Man Accused Of Slitting Woman’s Throat After She Let Him Into Her Home To Take A Shower
Eric Jones has been charged with aggravated assault in the seemingly random attack, according to Salt Lake City authorities.
A Utah homeless man has been arrested after allegedly slitting the throat of a woman who let him into her home to take a shower.
Eric Jones, 30, is now facing one count of aggravated assault after police say they found a woman just before 5 p.m. on Sunday Feb. 6 at her home “bleeding heavily,” according to a statement from Salt Lake City Police.
She had been cut across her throat.
The woman was rushed to a local hospital, where she received emergency surgery. Although she was initially listed in critical condition, doctors have since upgraded her condition to critical but stable, police said.
The woman told police she was attacked after inviting a man she believed to be homeless inside her home to take a shower.
Police are describing it as a “random” attack and did not comment on a possible motive.
A police spokesperson declined to provide any additional details about the case to Oxygen.com.
The relationship, if any, between the victim and Jones is unclear.
Investigators have said the vicious attack is a cautionary tale for others.
“Know who you are letting into your house and don’t let people who you are unsure of into your house,” Salt Lake City Police Det. Michelle Mechling told local station KSTU shortly after the woman was assaulted.
Jones was arrested about two miles away from where the woman was attacked around 1 a.m. on Feb. 11, Fox News reports.
He has been booked into the Salt Lake County Metro Jail.
