Body Of Missing Mom of 4 Found Stuffed In Car Trunk After Passerby Noticed The Smell

The body of a Texas mother has been found nearly a week after she went missing.

Angela Leann Mitchell, 24, of Dickinson, Texas, was last seen on May 5 by a friend in nearby Texas City, KHOU-TV had reported. She was reported missing the following day by her mother, Georgia Mitchell, after she failed to return home to her four children.

On Wednesday, a Texas City resident called 911 to report what they said was a smell coming from a car parked on the 400 block of 4th Street North, KTRK-TV reports. The white Honda had been parked in the neighborhood since some time before Mother's Day.

Investigators who arrived on scene determined that the smell was from decomposition, popped the truck and found Mitchell's body, the station said. Crime Online reported the car belonged to her.

Her cause of death is pending.

"She didn't deserve for someone to take her life. She's not a bad person,” Georgia Mitchell told KHOU.

Georgia Mitchell told KTRK-TV that she'd actually asked police to open the car trunk days earlier, because she couldn't figure out why her daughter would leave her car in that area.

"I met police officers at her vehicle here in Texas City after filing a missing person report and I begged them," she told the station. "I begged them to please search my daughter's car. 'Please search my daughter's car. Please investigate this.' I begged. I begged the police officers and they just dismissed me."

Mitchell explained that she'd gotten worried after having no contact with her daughter for 24 hours, and her fears only intensified when her calls to Angel started going to voicemail and the woman's phone disappeared from her mother's phone locator app.

A police document reviewed by KTRK-TV said cell phone records showed Angela Mitchell's last activity was at around 10:00 p.m. on May 5, near a home in the Lago Mar subdivision — 12 miles west of where her car and body were found.

Her death leaves four children, range in age from 9 years to just 7 months old, without a mother. 

Georgia Mitchell vowed to make sure that the infant grows up to know just “how much she loved him — I am going to make sure that he knows."

Now, investigators are searching for any suspects in the case. No arrests have been made and no suspects have been named. The Mainland Communities Crime Stoppers is offering a $5,000 reward to anyone who can provide information leading to a suspect's arrest.
