Homicide is the third-leading cause of death among indigenous women — they are murdered at rates more than 10 times the national average, according to federal data.
"Eight-four percent of Native American women will experience violence in their lifetime," Loni Coombs, an investigative journalist and former criminal prosecutor featured in the new Oxygen special "Murdered And Missing In Montana," said.
In the fictional read "The Bandit Queens" by Parini Schroff, Geeta finds the women in her village coming to her to help them get rid of their husbands.
