Mother Of 2 Vanishes On Belize Vacation With Boyfriend As Family Fears She's 'No Longer Alive'
Alison MacKenzie apparently was on a camping trip with a tour group when she disappeared overnight.
An Arizona mother of two has vanished while on vacation with her boyfriend in Belize, leaving her family and loved ones in distress.
Alison MacKenzie, 43, of Prescott, has been missing since Saturday when she disappeared while camping with a tour group, the Daily Courier, a local outlet, reports.
An “overnight catamaran tour operated by Ragamuffin Tours Limited left Caye Caulker for Rendezvous Caye with 15 passengers and the standard crew of 3 persons" on Friday, Ragamuffin Tours Limited said in a statement provided to Oxygen.com. They noted that Mackenzie, “who was accompanied by her 58 year old male companion” vanished sometime during the wee hours of Saturday morning while out on Rendezvous Caye, a small island.
The tour company stated they are “cooperating fully with law enforcement officers in their investigation into this incident” and “are deeply distressed and concerned as to the whereabouts and well being of Alison Mackenzie.”
Mackenzie’s mother Cherie Mackenzie has expressed deep worry over her daughter’s vanishing on Facebook.
“We are getting no where [sic] finding out where she is,” she posted. “It has been 48 hours now, and not only missing, but feared no longer alive.”
She went on to say, “My whole family is beyond devastated, it just doesn’t seem real. Her 2 daughters are past being consoled. They have lost their Mother and best friend.”
The Prescott Police Department told Oxygen.com that they are not involved with the investigation and that Belize Police Department is handling the case. That police department has not immediately returned Oxygen.com’s request for comment.
Cherie Mackenzie stated that she has “received 3 different stories about what happened that morning. None of them consistent with the others.”
She said she is trying to talk to people who were on the camping trip with her daughter. The concerned mother told the Daily Courier that the United States Embassy is assisting with the investigation and that searches are being conducted on the island where she vanished.
