Teacher Accused Of Doing Drugs With Student, Sexually Abusing Them
Christine Knudsen, a high school teacher in Fair Lawn, New Jersey, has been charged with second-degree sexual assault and two counts of second-degree endangering the welfare of a child.
A New Jersey high school teacher has been arrested after allegedly sexually abusing a student and taking drugs with the victim.
Christine E. Knudsen, 44, was charged with second-degree sexual assault and two counts of second-degree endangering the welfare of a child, according to a release by the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office. Knudsen’s arrest came one day after family services contacted the prosecutor’s office.
On Wednesday, the Institutional Abuse Investigation Unit of the New Jersey Department of Children and Families notified the prosecutor’s office of the alleged abuse.
“They received information that Christine E. Knudsen, a high school graphic arts teacher, had engaged in an inappropriate sexual relationship with a student at the school where she is employed,” the prosecutor’s office stated.
Bergen County prosecutor Mark Musella also alleged that the teacher used drugs with the student.
“An investigation by the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office and the Fair Lawn Police Department revealed the Knudsen engaged in sexual activity with the student as well as providing and ingesting controlled dangerous substances with the student,” the release continued.
Fair Lawn Public Schools Superintendent Nicholas J. Norcia commented on the arrest, calling it “an incident that allegedly occurred several years ago,” according to an email sent to Oxygen.com.
“We do not understand there to be any allegations of current misconduct,” Norcia stated. “And law enforcement has made clear that it does not consider any current students at risk of harm, in any way.”
The age and gender of the victim have not been released, nor has a time frame for when the alleged abuse took place. But according to Bergen County Jail arrest records, Knudsen is charged with sexually abusing a victim between the ages of 16 and 17.
Knudsen remains at the Bergen County Jail pending her first court appearance, according to the prosecutor’s office. There was no bond listed in the arrest records.
