See The Trailer For Peacock's New Rian Johnson Murder Mystery Series 'Poker Face'
Natasha Lyonne, Adrian Brody and more A-listers star in Rian Johnson's latest murder mystery series "Poker Face," premiering Jan. 26 on Peacock.
Natasha Lyonne is a woman on the run in Peacock's "Poker Face."
The streaming platform released the first trailer for Rian Johnson's murder mystery series on Wednesday, giving viewers a look at what's to come in the star-studded series.
And while we're not exactly detectives, it seems that something sinister is afoot.
Case in point: Natasha Lyonne's Charlie Cale gets shot at in the first seconds of the trailer before zipping off in her Plymouth Barracuda. Following her action-packed escape, she travels through rural areas of America and, according to the series description, along "every stop encounters a new cast of characters and strange crimes she can’t help but solve."
Aiding her in her detective work is a rare ability to detect when someone is lying. And no, it's not a "women's intuition," as one character suggests in the trailer — her talent as a "human lie detector" can best be described as a form of clairvoyance.
A slew of guest stars — including Adrien Brody, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Chloë Sevigny, Tim Meadows, Benjamin Bratt, Hong Chau, Ron Perlman, Stephanie Hsu, Lil Rel Howery and Luis Guzmán — appear throughout the 10-part series, in which each episode centers on a new mystery.
Lyonne and Johnson, the mastermind behind "Knives Out" and "Glass Onion," explained how the series came to fruition in a joint statement.
"Never underestimate the power of a good dinner conversation between friends," they shared. "What started as a discussion over steak frites about detective shows and what made them such a reliable pleasure — the exploration of little worlds within each new setting, the guest stars playing killers and victims, and most importantly, a scrappy protagonist you were always ready to kick back with and see win — ultimately resulted in the creation of Charlie, the driving force behind ‘Poker Face.'"
"We invite you to follow Charlie on a cross-country road trip as she meets a rogue’s gallery of characters and avenges a new injustice each episode, armed with little more than her uncanny ability to detect lies and a genuine appreciation for her fellow humans (and the occasional dog),” they added.
The first four episodes premiere on Peacock Jan. 26, with the remaining six episodes dropping every Thursday.
