‘Ink Master' Star Daniel Silva Charged With Murder After YouTuber Dies In Car Crash
Tattoo artist Daniel Silva and YouTuber Corey La Barrie were allegedly out celebrating La Barrie's 25th birthday the day of the fatal crash.
Daniel Silva, an artist from the competitive tattooing TV show “Ink Master,” was charged with murder Sunday following the death of YouTuber Corey La Barrie in a car crash.
Silva, 26, was allegedly zooming through a Los Angeles residential area Sunday night when he “lost control” of his vehicle, smashing the high-end sports car into a tree and a stop sign, according to a news release by the Los Angeles Police Department.
The driver was allegedly seen trying to flee the crash site “but was stopped by citizens who came to render aid,” according to the release.
Both the driver and his 25-year-old passenger were rushed to a nearby hospital, where the passenger was pronounced dead.
The LAPD did not identify the passenger in its report, but TMZ has reported the passenger was YouTuber Corey La Barrie. Tragically, it was the social media star's birthday: The day before the crash, La Barrie had posted a video on his channel talking about his plans to get drunk the next day for his 25th birthday.
The post was titled “Deleting This Video In 24 Hours…” — but La Barrie never got the chance to deliver that promise.
Silva and La Barrie had been celebrating his birthday at a party earlier that night and Silva had been drinking, witnesses claim, according to TMZ.
“My heart breaks right now, on my son’s 25 birthday today he was very drunk and got into a car with a drunk driver,” Lissa Burton, La Barrie’s mother, wrote in an Instagram post Sunday night. “…No words can describe the sadness I feel in [losing] a child. It just feels so unreal and I’m overwhelmed with grief.”
La Barrie’s YouTube channel has 350,000 subscribers and over 44 million views.
As for Silva, he was featured on Season 10 of “Ink Master” as a tattoo artist specializing in “geometric work, animal faces and black and grey,” according to his show bio.
He grew up poor, and at age 19 he found himself homeless and in trouble with the law, according to his bio. But he saved up money and tried his luck as a tattoo artist — ultimately starting his own studio.
Silva's Instagram account has over 1 million followers, and his YouTube channel has 230,000 subscribers.
He was hospitalized for a broken hip following the accident, police sources told TMZ.
He was booked in a Los Angeles jail on Monday and is being held on a $2 million bail, according to online records. It was not immediately clear if he had an attorney who was able to comment on his behalf.
