They Met On A 'Farmers Only' Dating Site — Now She's Charged With His Murder
Sheri Jones was charged this week with murder for the 2015 shooting death of Clarence Smith, who she met on the site, which advertises, "city folks just don't get it."
A couple who met on a dating site called "Farmers Only" did not have a fairytale ending — cops this week charged Sheri Jones with murder for the 2015 shooting death of Clarence Smith, 54.
Police say that Jones shot Smith dead in the front yard of her Fayetteville, North Carolina home three summers ago, according to WNCN in Raleigh. Jones, now 57, called 911 at the time, saying she shot him in self-defense, Cumberland County Sheriff's Office said on Monday.
The two had met a few months earlier on Farmers Only. Its tagline states, “City folks just don’t get it.” The site is free and it advertises itself as a way to “find a farmer, rancher, cowboy, cowgirl or animal lover.”
The site worked its magic and Smith and Jones had apparently hit it off. According to police, it didn’t last long. They were in the process of breaking up, and the day of the shooting, Smith went over to Jones' home to pick up some of his belongings.
Police don’t buy that the shooting was in self-defense. In fact, they think it was premeditated. Jones surrendered on Monday and has been charged with first-degree murder.
Few details were reported about the shooting at the time. Jones’ brother called the shooting an "unfortunate event,” according to a 2015 WTVD in Raleigh report.
