Actress Sarah Scott Accuses ‘Runaways’ Star Kip Pardue Of Masturbating In Front Of Her At Work
Scott alleges that Pardue placed her hand on his groin area while the two were filming a sexual scene together earlier this year, and then later masturbated in front of her when they were alone in his dressing room.
Actress Sarah Scott has accused actor Kip Pardue, who currently stars in Marvel’s “Runaways,” of sexual misconduct on set.
Scott, 35, alleged that Pardue, 43, put her hand on his groin while they filming a sex scene together earlier this year and later masturbated in front of her, according to a report from the Los Angeles Times published on Sunday.
Scott, who's acted on shows like “True Blood” and “Castle,” told the outlet that she and Pardue were filming a pilot episode for an independent series called “Mogulettes” in May 2018 when the incident occurred. Scott stated that she was wearing only nipple coverings and underwear during the scene when Pardue became visibly aroused and moved her hand to his groin. After filming was over, Pardue summoned Scott to his dressing room where he then masturbated in front of her, she claimed. She told the outlet that she froze and asked Pardue what he was doing, at which point he responded, “This isn’t a #MeToo thing. I’m not your employer. It’s not like I can fire you.”
Scott then fled, she told the Times, and when she asked Pardue later why he’d done it, he allegedly responded that it was because she was “just so hot.”
Pardue, for his part, admitted to the Times to placing Scott’s hand on his groin during the scene and apologized for it, but reportedly denied that the rest of Scott’s version of events happened.
“I clearly misread the situation during a sex scene on set and have apologized to Sarah,” reads his statement to his outlet. “I never intended to offend her in any way and deeply regret my actions and have learned from my behavior."
What followed was allegedly a months-long pursuit of justice for Scott, who reportedly reached out not only to the show’s producers, but to the Screen Actors Guild and Time’s Up for help in rectifying the situation before filing a police report regarding the incident with the Hermosa Beach Police Department in August. Scott ultimately filed a member-to-member complaint with the SAG-AFTRA in June, and Scott and Pardue have since agreed to mediation; if the mediation process is unsuccessful, a hearing will be held before the SAG’s disciplinary committee.
Pardue’s attorney Jonathan Steinsapir told the Times that Pardue “would welcome a SAG hearing or any other fair process to resolve this matter.”
Scott told the Times that she shared her story in the hopes of inspiring change within the entertainment industry. She also told the outlet that she was “disappointed” that Pardue chose to “hide behind his actions.”
“Speaking out about this has been extraordinarily difficult for me, and now I understand why so many people don’t. My goal remains the same — my wish is for Kip to take full responsibility for all of his actions,” she said, according to the outlet.
Neither Hulu nor Marvel have commented on Pardue’s future as a series regular on “Runaways,” Deadline reports. The series’ second season is slated to premiere on Hulu on December 21.
