5 Shocking Crimes Caught On Camera In 2017

There are millions of surveillance cameras in America, and dozens of police departments are equipped with body cameras. Couple this with smart phones from witnesses and victims, and you get a ton of crimes caught on camera.

Here are five of the most shocking ones from 2017:

1. LAPD Drug Drop

Body cams are meant to keep both police and civilians honest. But in November, a body cam caught what appeared to be an LAPD officer planting cocaine into a suspect's wallet. 

As CBS Los Angeles reported, body camera footage presented in court during a hearing showed an officer appear to be putting cocaine in a suspect's wallet when he was arrested after a hit-and-run accident. The act seems to have been accidentally taped by the officer, and it contradicted his court testimony.

2. Hurricane Irma Home Invader

During Hurricane Irma, a man living in North Carolina called the Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office asking for authorities to do a welfare check on his 85-year-old father. The father was found injured and transported to a hospital.

According to CNN, an officer who wasn't involved in the welfare check later broke into the home and rummaged through the house. He was seen on surveillance footage allegedly opening containers and putting their contents into his pockets. 

“We were outraged and disgusted when we viewed this,” the family said in a statement.

3. Mother Tries To Suffocate Baby

A North Carolina mom named Maggie Dixon brought her infant son to the hospital. According to WSOC, she told medical staff she thought he had pneumonia.

As her son was recovering, the staff noticed he had trouble breathing whenever she was alone with him, according to The Charlotte Observer. They decided to check surveillance tapes and were shocked to see her allegedly attempting to smother him four times with a pillow within 15 minutes.

4. PDA

 

Families who visited the Wisconsin State Fair expected to see his artists like John Mellencamp, The Beach Boys and Pentatonix, but they got an eyeful when smart phones caught a couple having sex out in the open. 

"We're here for a horse show or a dog show - not to make babies," one fairgoer told Wisconsin’s FOX6. The couple, Desiree Anderson and Robert Beasley, were arrested, according to FOX6. They didn't seem to mind the audience and even waved at one point.

5. Donkey Sex

In August, an Arkansas man was caught on his neighbors' security camera allegedly having sex with a donkey. Forty-nine-year-old Everett Lee Compton, Jr. was arrested and charged with bestiality and cruelty to animals, reported FOX6. 

He told police that marijuana “makes him do sick things,” according to Arkansas Online.
