Do Republicans Want To ‘Make America White Again?’
News anchor Jorge Ramos makes that case. What do you think?
On Monday night, news anchor Jorge Ramos told CNN’s Anderson Cooper that President Donald Trump is not proposing immigration reform. Instead, according to Ramos, Trump is "proposing immigration revenge.”
He added that President Trump and Republicans "want to make America white again."
"The fact is that Republicans with this negotiation, they want the change the essence of the United States," Ramos said. "Do they really want to make America white again. Is that the deal?"
He said that when Republicans speak about "chain migration," they really mean that they want "white country" again. Ramos said that after 1965, the United States made a choice to become a "diverse, multicultural, more biracial country." Now, Republicans want to "change the essence of the United States" according to Ramos.
"When they talk about chain migration, what they are really saying is, 'We want to have a white country again. We want to go back to 1965 when almost 80, 90% of the people were non-Hispanic whites.' That's no longer the idea of this country. I think we had agreed, after 1965, that we wanted a diverse, multicultural, more biracial country. And the way they want to do it, I think, they want to reverse this incredible demographic trend that by 2024 is going to make America a minority-majority country," Ramos said.
Ramos is a Mexican-born Emmy-award winning journalist who anchors the Univision news television program Noticiero Univision.
