Indiana Man Accused Of Killing Mom Told Cops He Was 'Possessed By Demons And Hitler'
"I am a bad person. Kill me. I need to be put down so I don't hurt anyone else," Jason Steiss said, according to Fort Wayne police.
A man accused of murdering his own mother has allegedly blamed the homicide on being possessed by both Adolf Hitler and demons, according to police in Indiana.
Jason Alan Steiss, 34, was arrested on Wednesday and charged with aggravated battery and related charges in the death of his mother Joy Steiss, according to the Journal Gazette in Fort Wayne, Indiana. That outlet reports that Steiss was covered in blood when a detective entered an interview room to talk to him.
“I need to go to prison for what I did to my mother,” Steiss allegedly told Fort Wayne Police Det. Brian Martin, according to the Journal Gazette. Police say that Steiss admitted to Martin that he bit, hit, punched and choked his mother.
"I murdered my mother,” Steiss said, according to an affidavit obtained by WANE-TV in Fort Wayne. "I am a bad person. Kill me. I need to be put down so I don't hurt anyone else."
He told police he was “possessed by demons and Hitler,” and only “sort of, kind of” felt bad for what he did, according to the affidavit. He also asked to be killed by the electric chair, according to the Journal Gazette.
Steiss called his dad after killing his mother to ask him for help, according to the affidavit. Emergency services were called and they rushed the injured woman to a nearby hospital but it was too late.
Steiss is being held on a $20,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in court the day before Halloween. Multiple sources told WANE-TV that Steiss suffers from mental illness.
It’s unclear if he has a lawyer who can speak on his behalf at this time.
