Man Admits Raping Toddler After Passerby Witnesses The Horrid Assault Through The Bedroom Window
Jaime Mauricio Leon pleaded guilty to first-degree sexual assault for the 2017 incident in Bloomfield, New Jersey. His alleged accomplice, Olga Diaz, is still awaiting trial.
A New Jersey man has admitted to raping a toddler after a passerby saw him committing the assault through a bedroom window.
Jaime Mauricio Leon, 34, of Bloomfield, pleaded guilty last week to first-degree aggravated sexual assault, and third-degree possession of child pornography, the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office said Tuesday.
In June of 2017, “a private citizen walked into the Long Branch Police Department to report that he observed, through a bedroom window, a man and woman committing sexual acts upon a minor,” the prosecutor's office states. That person said the child appeared to be sleeping.
“Additional investigation revealed further evidence that Leon and the female suspect had planned the attack on the child, and that both were in possession of child sexual abuse images,” the office wrote.
The woman, Olga M. Diaz, 32, who knows the victim, has been charged with five counts of aggravated sexual assault, two counts each of child endangerment, conspiracy to commit sexual assault and conspiracy to permit a child to engage in child pornography. Her case is still pending. It's unclear is if Diaz has a lawyer who can speak on her behalf at this time.
Leon was arrested a week after that witness reported the attack to police.
His guilty plea will result in at least one mandatory 25-year sentence. He also faces parole supervision for life. He will be sentenced on Aug. 2.
