'I Convinced Him,' Student Claims She Manipulated Her Teacher With Cancer Into Sex
“I convinced him he was going to die," the Illinois woman who slept with her high school teacher claimed.
A woman testified at her former high school teacher’s trial this week and claimed that she manipulated him into having a sexual relationship with her.
Scott M. Brady, 54, a former science teacher at North Boone High School in Poplar Grove, Illinois is currently on trial for his sexual relationship with that student, according to local outlet Rockford Register Star.
The unnamed student, now 20, testified Tuesday that the former teacher was manipulated into the situation because of her.
“I convinced him he was going to die,” she said, according to the Rockford Register Star report. “It was more manipulation than anything. On my part. I took advantage of what I knew.”
What she reportedly knew was that he had cancer, WTVO in Rockford, Illinois reports.
"I have a testicular mass that was undiagnosed at the time," Brady testified in court. "It's since been diagnosed, but it was causing me to lose a tremendous amount of weight. I was shaking all the time. For the first time in my life, I started calling off work, now and then, which is something I do not tend to do."
Neither teacher or student denies the fact that they had sex, but when and how many times has been up for debate. Brady testified that the teen was 18 at the time that they did have sex, which the student claims happened twice. Previously she told investigators it was six times but later retracted that, claiming she felt pressured to say that, according to the Rockford Register Star.
Brady said it would have been impossible for them to have sex before she was of legal age because of his health condition. However, he's accused of having sexual contact with the girl starting as early as late 2015, when she was 17. He, however, claims she moved in with him in December 2016 and that that's when they had sex.
The girl’s “father disowned her, kicked her out of the house,” Brady testified. “She came to me. I told her she was welcome, I had a spare bedroom.”
Brady was married, but he and his wife divorced in 2017.
The student claimed she initially pursued the teacher.
“He told me not to do that,” she testified. “That was inappropriate.”
Brady has pleaded not guilty. His defense claims the student was of legal age when they had sex and that she was not under the guidance of Brady, as she was "not a direct student" of his. The age of consent in Illinois is 17. Brady's charges stemmed from his position at the school as both teacher and as a soccer coach.
If convicted of the sexual assault and aggravated criminal sexual abuse the ex-teacher faces, Brady could spend up to 74 years behind bars, according to local outlet WIFR.
