Ex-Miss Kentucky Charged With Sending Nude Pics To 15-Year-Old
Ramsey Bearse has been charged with four felony counts of distributing or displaying obscene matter to a minor after allegedly sending explicit photos to a former student.
A former Miss Kentucky who is a teacher in West Virginia has been charged with sending nude pictures to a 15-year-old former student.
Ramsey Bearse, 28, was arrested Friday and charged with four felony counts of distributing or displaying obscene matter to a minor.
A criminal complaint says the student's parent informed authorities of lewd pictures sent by Bearse that were found on the teenager's phone. The unidentified parent said Bearse had been the boy's teacher during part of his time at Andrew Jackson Middle School in Cross Lanes, West Virginia.
Authorities say Bearse admitted to sending the nude photos on Snapchat.
She was arraigned in Kanawha County Magistrate Court, according to local West Virginia outlet WCHS.
If convicted, the former beauty queen could face up to 20 years in prison. She has since been released on a $10,000 property bond, according to police.
It's unclear whether she has an attorney.
A spokesman for Kanawha County Schools declined to comment but confirmed that Bearse was a teacher at the school. She has been suspended from her teaching position at the institution, police said on Friday.
Under her maiden name of Carpenter, Bearse was crowned Miss Kentucky in 2014.
She reportedly impressed pageant judges with her talent as a fiddler, as well as her advocacy for people that suffer from multiple sclerosis — a disease she was diagnosed with at 19, according to a report by the Lexington Herald-Leader at the time.
