Who Is Emily B? Fabolous' Alleged Abuse Victim Is Rapper's Longtime Girlfriend
The rapper Fabolous faces domestic violence and terroristic threats charges after allegedly attacking Emily B.
The rapper Fabolous faces domestic violence and terroristic threats charges after an alleged attack on his longtime girlfriend, Emily Bustamante.
Outside of hip-hop, many are not familiar with the 36-year-old stylist and reality TV personality known as Emily B., who has long been a fixture of the New York City rap scene.
Fabolous was arrested March 30 following the alleged assault. Court documents obtained this week by NorthJersey.com said that Fabolous, real name John Jackson, hit Bustamante in the face seven times, allegedly causing the loss of two front teeth. Fabolous was seen in surveillance video arguing with Bustamante as well as her father. He eventually surrendered to police.
Here's what you need to know about the woman at the center of the domestic drama:
She's A Celebrity Stylist
Professionally, Bustamante is a celebrity stylist. As she told Style Blazer in 2003 (see video above), she has worked with music stars including, Timbaland and Trey Songz. She explained that she got her big break through an artist working with Pharrell.
"The first time I realized I wanted to be a stylist was on a video set," she said, seeing another stylist working. "I was just there...I can do that. I have the vision. I have an eye."
Fashion Philosophy
Bustamante described her style as a "very girly girl." She is often spotted at music industry events and parties, hanging with celebrities. She told Style Blazer that she likes to be ahead of the curve in style.
"You have to have a vision for [your clients]. You can't follow the trends, you have to create them."
Life With Fabolous
Bustamante and Fabolous began dating in 2002. They have two children together: Johan, 10, and Jonas, 2. Fabolous told Hard Knock TV in 2010 that he was looking forward to being a father.
"I'm thinking about the future," he said, noting that he grew up without a father figure. "Being able to carry that success to giving your son more options."
Life After Fabolous
Their relationship has been filled with drama before. They have on-again and off-again through the years and dealt with things like Fabolous' infidelity. In 2011, Bustamante shared with radio host TT Torrez that she had split from the rapper. However, she affirmed that Fabolous was still a father figure to their two children as well as her daughter from a previous relationship.
"Just because my relationship changes with him, doesn't mean yours has to," she remembered telling her daughter in the interview. "He still loves you."
In 2013, Fabolous told Vlad TV that he "respected" the institution of marriage and was open to walking down the aisle. "Certain people get married and then get divorced three months later. I wouldn't want to move forward with something I was unsure about."
Love & Hip Hop: New York
Bustamante joined the cast of "Love & Hip Hop: New York" in 2011. On the show, she found out her friend (and castmate) Kimbella had been sleeping with Fabolous while Bustamante was pregnant.
"It's not a good thing. But it's life," she later said to TT Torrez. In the interview, Bustamante shared that women often approached her partner despite his relationship status.
"I put the blame on both of them," she said of the affair. "It's not right."
It's unclear whether the couple was dating again at the time of the alleged assault on March 7.
