Woman Kills Her 8-Year-Old Twin Grandsons, Then Overdoses, Authorities Say
Jaden and Jorden Webb's mother reportedly committed suicide, which resulted in their grandmother, Dorothy Flood, becoming their caretaker.
An Arizona woman is accused of fatally shooting her own twin grandsons to death before overdosing on drugs.
Dorothy Flood, 55, allegedly killed Jaden and Jorden Webb, both 8 years old, on Thursday, authorities in Tucson said according to the Associated Press. She was the boys’ sole guardian. She now faces two counts of first-degree murder for their deaths.
The Pima County Sheriff’s Department said a call was made Thursday afternoon requesting medical assistance at a home in Tucson.
Upon arrival, first responders discovered Flood unresponsive in the home. She was exhibiting symptoms of an “apparent overdose,” the sheriff’s department said. Flood was transported to a local hospital and survived.
While providing medical care, first responders discovered the two children “with obvious signs of trauma and determined they were dead,” according to the deputies. They were found dead in separate bedrooms and both had suffered gunshot wounds.
“My first reaction was of course 'No, it could not be the same Dorothy we knew,'” Flood’s ex-coworker Chandra McCord told KOLD-TV in Tuscon. She said that Flood’s office space used to be full of photos of the boys.
She also said that Flood's daughter, who is the the mother of Jaden and Jorden, committed suicide, which resulted in Flood becoming the boys’ caretaker.
“You could see the fear that she had of the future.” McCord said. “She was afraid she wasn’t going to be able to handle it.”
It’s unclear if Flood has a lawyer who can speak on her behalf at this time. She is being held without bond.
