Serial Wedding Crasher Robbing Texas Newlyweds, Authorities Say

Authorities in Comal County, Texas are seeking information that could lead to the arrest of a woman they believe has been attending weddings uninvited, mingling with guests, and stealing envelopes filled with cash and gift cards. They’ve dubbed her “the wedding crasher.”

Police are trying to identify a woman they believe is robbing newlyweds of their gifts by posing as a guest at weddings throughout Texas.

They’re calling her “the wedding crasher,” according to a Comal County Crime Stoppers Facebook post.

“The Wedding Crasher has been frequenting wedding events not only in Comal County, but surrounding counties as well, preying on unsuspecting families and friends,” the press release stated. “The suspect arrives uninvited to weddings, poses as a guest and then steals the gifts.”

Officials are now asking for the public’s help, “before she strikes again.”

“Let’s not let her ruin anyone else’s special day and bring this crasher to justice,” the release added.

So far, police have little idea who she could be.

But Jennifer Smith, who handles press relations for the Comal County Sheriff’s Office, told Oxygen.com that authorities believe the woman has primarily lifted envelopes, gift cards, and cash from at least three different weddings.

“She’s only taking envelopes being left on the gift tables and she arrives and leaves soon after, like one to two minutes,” Smith told Oxygen.com.

Smith said police are unsure of the exact amount of stolen gifts. However, she added that her office suspects the woman began hijacking wedding gifts in 2018. Her most recent heist was a wedding on Aug. 3 in Comal County.

“We are getting some really good leads,” Smith also said. “We hope to have her in custody soon.”

Authorities have shared grainy, black and white surveillance images of the suspected thief that picture a dark-haired woman wearing cowboy boots, tight pants, and carrying a black leather purse. She’s seen grinning in some of the surveillance stills. Police are also using a color still of the woman purchasing cleaning supplies and other items at a Home Depot. In that photo she’s wearing sunglasses and a green New Orleans Saints T-shirt. The alleged crook is pictured with another woman with dark hair who’s wearing a two-tone blue hoodie and white shorts. It’s unclear when the footage was captured.

Smith explained that Comal County authorities were able to pinpoint locations where the stolen gift cards were being used, which led them to images of the suspected swindler.

“The people who purchased the gift cards for these couples — they kept the receipts — that’s how we were able to track down the gift cards we were able to locate her by the surveillance video in stores because she was using the gift cards,” Smith said.

Comal County area residents are now on the lookout for the thief.

“I officiate at weddings around here,” wrote Christobel E. Hanz on the Crime Stoppers Facebook post.

“I will be sure to lock my purse in my car. I know brides etc leave their purses in the bridal chamber. NOT a good idea ladies!!”

“Horrible person,” Diana Acosta Taylor also commented.

The Comal County Crime Stoppers are offering a reward of up to $4,000 for information leading to the arrest of the bridal bandit. Police are encouraging the public to call 800-620-8477 if they have any information.
