73-Year-Old Woman Allegedly Beat Her 82-Year-Old Neighbor To Death With A Brick
Chun Yong Oh and Hwa Cha Pak appeared to be longtime friends and neighbors until the alleged deadly encounter.
An elderly Maryland woman is accused of beating her even older neighbor to death with a brick.
A fight between neighbors Chun Yong Oh, 73, and Hwa Cha Pak, 82, broke out Sunday morning at their senior living facility in Bladensburg, the Prince George’s County Police Homicide Unit announced in a Monday press release. At some point, the dispute turned violent and “Oh struck the victim multiple times with a brick,” according to police.
Then, she called 911 to report the murder.
When first responders arrived at the scene, “they located the victim suffering from upper body trauma in a garden in the back of the building.”
She was pronounced dead at the scene.
Oh has been charged with both first- and second-degree murder for the death of her neighbor. She’s being held without bond.
The two had been longtime friends, neighbors told NBC Washington.
“Who in their right mind, or what kind of evil, had to creep up to take my grandmother’s life?” Pak's grandson Andy Kwon told the Washington Post. He said he was shocked to learn the age of his grandma’s alleged killer.
He said she was a single mother from South Korea who played a big role in raising both him and her other eight grandchildren, as well as three great-grandchildren. Kwon said Pak would often walk four miles with him after his martial arts practices, all while carrying his heavy duffel bag for him.
“She helped raise all of us,” Kwon said. “She literally bounced from house to house to take care of her grandchildren.”
A motive for what may have sparked the deadly incident has not been released.
