‘She Told Me She Was At Peace': Shanann Watts' Mom Said Spirits Of Daughter, Grandkids Visited Her After Deaths
"I knew. I swear to God I knew. ... I woke up the whole house. I said, 'Something's wrong with Shanann,'" Sandy Rzucek said of the day her daughter was murdered.
Shanann Watts’ mother feels she's been visited by the spirits of her daughter and grandchildren following their deaths.
Frank and Sandy Rzucek, along with Shanann’s brother Frankie, went on the “Dr. Phil” show Monday to react to the interview’s horrific details.
“I felt my daughter's spirit the moment she died,” Sandy Rzucek said on the "Dr. Phil" show Monday. She appeared alongside her husband Frank and son Frankie.
"I knew. I swear to God I knew. ... I woke up the whole house. I said, 'Something's wrong with Shanann.'"
She said she heard the "Holy Spirit" whisper Shanann’s name.
This is before anyone even knew Shanann was missing
Chris Watts pleaded guilty last year to killing his pregnant wife, Shanann, and their daughters, 4-year-old Bella and 3-year-old Celeste. Late last year, he was sentenced to life in prison without parole for the crimes. Watts sat down with investigators from the Frederick Police Department, the Colorado Bureau of Investigation, and the FBI on Feb. 18 for a five-hour interview, which was released Thursday.
That interview revealed disturbing details about how Chris killed both his wife and two daughters. He told investigators that Shanann didn’t fight back and that she lay in bed while he choked her to death. He explained he smothered his two daughters with a blanket as they sat in a vehicle with their dead mother. Bella watched him kill Celeste, according to his confession and begged him not to kill her, putting up a fight. She fought to live so much she injured herself from biting so hard.
Sandy said it haunts her imagining what the girls were thinking when they were killed.
“Every second of my life," she said when asked if she tortures herself about their girls’ final moments.
She said the other thing that has kept her going is her belief that her dead family members visited her in spirit form after they died.
She said when Celeste visited her she told her, “Hiya nonna. You’ve been always so good to us nonna and we love you with our soul."
As for Bella, Sandy said she told her, “I can go to Walt Disney World anytime I want.”
The grandmother explained, "I said, that's right, Bella,"
Sandy said she even got to meet her unborn grandson Nico.
As for her daughter Shanann, Sandy said she visited her first. The night after Shanann’s body was found, Sandy said she felt a presence and heard Shanann tell her, "I love you Mommy and I’m sorry.”
"She told me she was at peace," Sandy said.
