10-Year-Old Girl Accused Of Fatally Stomping On Baby's Head In A Panic To Stop His Crying
A district attorney said the girl "didn’t know what to do and didn’t want to get into trouble and then she proceeded to stomp on the 6-month-old’s head.”
A 10-year-old girl allegedly fatally stomped on the head of a 6-month-old boy at a daycare in Wisconsin after dropping the baby and becoming panicked by his crying.
The girl was charged, all while sobbing, with first-degree intentional homicide as an adult on Monday morning, according to the Associated Press. Her mother held her as the judge ordered a $50,000 cash bond to hold her behind bars, according to the Star Tribune in Minneapolis.
The incident occurred the day before Halloween, in Tilden. First responders found an unresponsive baby bleeding from his head.
Though the baby was airlifted to a children’s hospital, he died two days later.
District Attorney Wade Newell has said that the girl has confessed to killing the child, WEAU in Eau Claire, Wisconsin reports.
“She stated she was holding the child and that’s when she dropped the child,” Newell said. “The child hit its head on the footstool and then the child started crying and she panicked and didn’t know what to do and didn’t want to get into trouble and then she proceeded to stomp on the 6-month-old’s head.”
The girl’s biological parents appeared with her in court, but the daycare where the baby died is reportedly run by her foster parents.
The girl’s defense attorney Kirby Harless asked for a smaller bond than was given.
"She would like to return home, and given her age, that may be appropriate," Harless said, according to the Associated Press.
