YouTubers Marcus And Kristin Johns Hospitalized After ‘Extremely Traumatic’ Hit-And-Run
The couple alleged that the driver was fleeing from the police and hit them on purpose to cause a distraction.
Married social media stars Marcus and Kristin Johns are thankful to be alive after they were hit on their bikes by a car that they say was involved in a police chase.
The couple updated their followers in two separate videos both taken from their hospital beds and posted to their Instagram pages on Tuesday. They were gravely injured during a bike ride on Monday night after being hit by someone involved in a burglary who was “[running] from the cops,” Marcus explained in his video. They said their recoveries are expected to be a few months.
“A man going extremely fast hit us head-on and he fled the scene,” Kristin said in her tearful video explaining the “extremely traumatic experience.”
In the caption of his video, Marcus assured his fans that he and Kristin are OK, and recounted what happened. The pair were riding their bikes in a residential neighborhood when they heard a car engine “revving all the way up” behind him, the post explained. They tried to get out of the way of the driver, who they said was driving erratically, but he “followed us to hit us,” Marcus wrote. The car struck them and left them both with injuries that required surgery.
“We think that the car hit us on purpose to try to get cops’ attention away from him so he could get away,” Marcus said in his video.
In the caption of his post, Marcus explained that he “blacked out until [he] got to the hospital,” adding, “So after, I don’t know what really happened. Sadly, Kristin was fully conscious and had to watch me unresponsive on the concrete till [an] ambulance arrived for us. Kristin said we flew about 50 feet from the impact.”
In her video, Kristin said that her femur was “snapped in half” in the crash, and Marcus’ lower leg was broken. Both had to have surgery on Tuesday morning, and have since had physical therapy sessions, where both managed to take a few steps, despite the pain from their injuries.
Although Marcus’ post refers to a “robbery and police pursuit,” official details surrounding the accident are unclear. In a second post, Marcus said that the person who hit them “is still out and about,” describing the situation as “very weird stuff” and promising to update his fanbase at a later date.
Marcus described their survival in his post as a “nothing short of a miracle,” while Kristin proclaimed in hers, “Jesus saved our lives last night.”
The couple, who have more than 1 million combined followers on Instagram and YouTube, have been married for three years.
Their accident comes on the heels of another tragedy within the world of social media influencers; YouTube star Corey La Barrie was killed in a car crash on Sunday while out celebrating his 25th birthday. Reality TV star Daniel Silva, who was allegedly driving the car that La Barrie was riding in, has since been charged with murder.
