Where to Watch Anatomy of Lies, a Documentary About a Disgraced Grey's Anatomy Writer
The Peacock documentary features interviews with former Grey's Anatomy writer Elisabeth Finch's friends and colleagues who have accused her of lying about details of her life.
Former Grey's Anatomy writer Elisabeth Finch said she had cancer, was abused by her brother, and that she lost a friend to a mass shooting. But according to those who knew her, it was all a lie.
These deceptions are explored in the upcoming Peacock docuseries Anatomy of Lies, which features interviews with Finch's "closest contacts," including former friends and colleagues. In the docuseries, the participants look back on their conversations with the screenwriter, whose “jaw-dropping lies fooled Hollywood for years, and became fodder for many high-profile episodes of Grey’s," per a press release.
“I think she saw her life like a TV series,” one person reflected in the official trailer. “You have to keep going big, because that’s how you keep your audience.”
These tragic plot lines kept viewers tuning in to the medical drama, which garnered praise for its inclusion of such sensitive and prescient topics.
But years later, Finch's wife, single mother and trauma survivor Jennifer Beyer — described by Peacock as Finch's "final mark" — realized that the stories her partner shared did not add up, and sought to set the record straight. Beyer spoke to Vanity Fair about her experience with Finch as part of a wide-ranging exposé, headlined "The Scene Stealer," which is the basis of Anatomy of Lies.
"I let her into my home, into my kids’ lives. When you love somebody you ignore red flags until they’re hitting you in the head,” Beyer said in the trailer.
Finch has since admitted to lying about being diagnosed with cancer and more.
“I could only hope that the work that I've done will allow me back into those relationships where I can say, ‘OK, I did this, I hurt a lot of people and I'm also going to work my f-cking ass off because this is where I want to be and I know what it's like to lose everything,’” she told The Ankler in 2022.
