Joel Hollendorfer's former wife claimed he admitted to strangling Kara Nichols and burying her on top of an existing horse grave.

Sara Otero, who was reported missing from Oceanside, California on Jan. 28, had been struggling with depression, her family previously said.

"Kara was a daughter, sister, niece and friend to many," said NWCAVE's Michelle Bart in a Wednesday statement posted on "Justice for Kara" after her body was identified. "Kara's life mattered in 2012 and still matters in 2022."

Catherine "Abby" McKinney and her boyfriend, Dakota Hill, have been taken into custody as authorities continue their search for Serenity Ann McKinney.

Family members say that 28-year-old Sara Otero may have experienced a bout of depression when she told them she was off to meet a friend.

A convicted murderer currently serving two life sentences for raping and killing a 25-year-old woman in 1980 was sentenced to an additional decades-long term in Michigan for the murder of his daughter less than a decade later.
