Teacher Accused Of Having Sexual Relationship With 15-Year-Old Allegedly Told Cops She Was 'In Love With The Boy'
Miami-area prep school teacher Desiree Cartin Rodriguez was allegedly filmed engaging in sexual acts with her teen student.
A Miami-area teacher has been busted for carrying on a sexual relationship with a 15-year-old student, police said.
Prep school teacher Desiree Cartin Rodriguez, 27, was charged with two counts of lewd and lascivious battery, according to WSVN. She was arrested after law enforcement received an anonymous tip this month. The teenager in question, a 15-year-old, confirmed the sexual relationship with investigators — and told them some of the erotic encounters were filmed, the Miami Herald reported.
Rodriguez was arrested Friday and allegedly confessed to the relationship.
“She admitted to being involved in the relationship, even went as far as telling our detectives she was in love with the boy,” said Doral Police spokesperson Rey Valdes, according to WSVN.
Investigators also inspected the purported video footage and said they confirmed both the teacher and student’s identity.
Rodriguez taught at the Doral Academy Preparatory School.
The teenage victim told detectives that the alleged sexual relationship began in August, local news outlet WPLG reported. The suspected sexual encounters took place in Rodriguez’s classroom over school lunch breaks and after class. The 15-year-old also stated that his teacher would drive them around in her car, where they also “would engage in sexual conduct,” according to authorities.
“Our administrative team was made aware of an inappropriate situation involving a teacher and student,” Carlos Ferralls, Doral Academy Preparatory School’s principal, said in a statement to parents, the Miami Herald reported.
“Immediately upon learning of this incident, action was taken. Law enforcement was contacted and the teacher was terminated immediately from her position at our school. We are not at liberty to discuss further details because of an ongoing police investigation. Keeping our children safe is our number one priority. Our safety protocols and procedures allowed us to address this situation quickly and with little disruption to our students or their class time.”
Rodriguez, a Florida International University graduate, was reportedly an English teacher at the school. In a now-deleted staff profile on the school’s website, Rodriguez boasted about her credentials and wrote that she was “thrilled” to teach at the preparatory academy.
She's being held on a $7,500 bond at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center, according to the Herald.
